PUHOVSKY was recorded with a pre-war American Presto K-8 record cutting lathe, newly renovated by Jedrzej and equipped with an alternative, car-battery-powered platter drive and amplifier, independent of the electricity grid. Jedrzej's custom "Broken Chicken Records" vinyl blank-discs were used under a low-fi sapphire cutting stylus, as a valuable diamond one would be too prone get damaged in the rough, on-board recording conditions.

Pre-war field recordings, made on the same and similar machines, by the U.S. Library of Congress, had an important influence on the evolution and shape of contemporary popular music forms of both Europe and the Americas.

The audio track you hear is what was cut during the cruise, in sailing conditions.
The wind can be heard on the recording, and waves hit on the sides of the boat. The wave-hits and boat’s tilting were affecting the work of the cutting head which can also be heard on the recording.

The whole project uses the recording possibilities offered by this device, which was very innovative in its time. 

The audio from the master-vinyl that was cut on the boat was transferred digitally from a turntable directly with no EQ.
